British Automobile Association Dragon Rapide in 1/32!
Lukgraph Models has a gorgeous new resin 1/32 Dragon Rapide kit that has just hit the market. Without question, one of the prettiest Rapides there ever was was G-AHKV in service with the British Automobile Association in the late 1950s. She was finished in bright yellow and black, with contrasting markings, featuring the classic AA logo prominently on the wings and tail.
Since the kit is a very limited production item, the decal is similarly limited production. The yellow parts are silkscreen printed by Cartograf (with a white underlay so they stand up to being placed on a black surface), and the black parts are laser printed on a continuous clear carrier, requiring each item be cut out close to the design with a sharp knife or scissors. The markings and paint scheme are fairly simple, so reference the illustrations below. The aircraft carried a chrome plated AA badge on the nose inside the black flash. This is printed as a clear area in the black flash. We recommend carefully measuring the location, applying an appropriately sized disk of shiny foil to the model, then applying the black flash decal over it.
Modifications required to the Lukgraph kit include eliminating the aft-most cabin window on the right hand side, adding a DF football above the cockpit, and adding sugar scoop fairings to the cooling air intakes on the engine nacelles (see photo).
The decals are only availble directly from me, and for a limited time. Cost is US $15. For US customers, the price includes postage. Outside the US, please add $5 for postage (sorry, but it’s gotten pricey..).
Payment by PayPal to email@example.com and please be sure to include your mailing address, as this is sometimes missing from PayPal transactions.
Thanks, and have fun!
